Actress, Amanda Manku who portrays the character of Dr Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Thobakgale-Seakamela on SABC 1’s drama series Skeem Saam has recently unpacked her current storyline with the purpose of educating the public.

Amanda who with Clement Maosa as her on-screen husband, had recently found out that they were pregnant with twins, and joy filled the Seakamela household upon receiving the news, until Dr Hlongwane (played by Sebasa Mogale) cut the joyous mood short when he noticed that one of Lizzy’s spinal cord discs has slipped, and explained that this might cause Lizzy to be paralysed if she continues with her pregnancy.

This injury stems from Lizzy’s unfortunate shooting incident where she was caught in a crossfire while travelling with her then-boyfriend, Mangaliso also known as Baby Maker (played by Bongani Masondo), and found herself shot in the spinal cord years ago, while she was a student. The aftermath of the unfortunate incident has caught up with her as a married woman who is also a qualified medical doctor.

Recently, Amanda shared that shooting these heart-wrenching scenes was heavy and very emotional, she revealed that sometimes the director would say cut, and she would continue crying. She also noted that such a storyline needs an actress to understand it, as many people relate to the story.

Skeem Saam recently took to their Instagram page to share Amanda’s interview about her storyline. Delving deep into the matter she said, “Personally, playing this role was intense and even when they called cut, I would find myself still crying because it was heavy. With the help of my co-star, Clement Maosa, I managed to portray the storyline,” she said.

Amanda also took time to share an educative insight about the importance of listening to parents, as Lizzy sneaked out and visited her boyfriend after her mother told her not to go.

“Even when her mom advised against certain things, she didn’t listen, thinking she knew it all. Nine years later, she is facing challenges. Different choices back then could have prevented this situation. This story shows us that every action has a reaction. Be mindful of your decisions as they always lead to repercussions, whether positive or not,” she said.

It’s not just this issue though. This issue was the final nail to the coffin

Zamokuhle was ready to let Lizzy be paralysed just so he can have babies and even called her a murderer. Lizzy will always remember that he didn’t side with her when she needed him the most #SkeemSaam https://t.co/3dS79MQ5gk

Lizzy wasn’t raised well that’s why she’s “killing” the babies… (Even though it’s not by choice but medical circumstances) Pretty was raised well and she aborted coz she didn’t want the baby… Mantuli is a hypocrite #SkeemSaam
