Taking to their Instagram page, Ladysmith Black Mambazo announced that the memorial service will be after they return from an international tour. In a statement issued, the group said: “Ladysmith Black Mambazo, together with the family of Albert Mazibuko wish to express our deepest gratitude to the media houses, supporters, and all South Africans who have offered their love, prayers and condolences during this time of profound loss. Your support does not go unnoticed and is deeply felt by all whose lives Albert has touched.”

According to the statement, the group is currently on an international tour and is scheduled to return to South Africa on Sunday, April 12.

“Due to these commitments, it has been impossible to hold the funeral service sooner. We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown during this period.”

The memorial service will be held on April 15, at CFCI in Durban at 10am, followed by the funeral service on Saturday, April 18 at Estcourt Entabamhlophe (Emambazweni).

Albert passed away on April 4 at the age of 77, leaving Mzansi reeling in shock. He is one of the founding members who remained a guiding elder after the death of Joseph Shabalala. According to the statement issued by the Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Gayton McKenzie, Albert was more than a performer. Rather, he was a custodian of a uniquely South African sound that travelled across the world and united people through music.
