Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was shot and killed in a Durban shooting last week Saturday on the 10th of February 2023. The incident took place outside the restaurant Wish on Florida Road just after 10pm.
His family confirmed his passing on Sunday morning, February 11th 2023 and the whole of the country has been shattered since the news came out. Fans and celebrities have sent their heartfelt condolences to the Forbes family, his 7 year old daughter, Kairo and all his loved ones.
Through AKA’s Instagram account, his family announced the proceedings leading to his last resting place.
“We as the Forbes family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the last past few days. Kiernan wasn’t just loved by us as a family, but by the nation, as we’ve seen from loved ones, friends, industry colleagues, media tributes and the Megacy.
“It is our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted through his git of music. His memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online, “read the statement.
The memorial service will take place at the Sandton Convention Center on Friday, 17th February 2023 at 15:00. It will also be live streamed on the AKAworldwide YouTube page.
He will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18th February 2023.

The family also made special mention of their extended family, the Mahosana’s, Dj Zinhle’s marital surname and thanked them for their unwavering support during this time and said:
“We’d also like to acknowledge our extended family. The Mahosana’s for their unwavering support during this time, as Bongani Mahosana will be in absentia at the the memorial and funeral due to observing cultural protocol.”
AKA’s father, Tony Forbes has been appointed as the Family’s spokesperson.
