Anwar ‘Dogg’ Khan, a former bodyguard to slain rapper Kieran Forbes, popularly known as AKA is among the 15 people who are accused of corruption at the University of Fort Hare.

Anwar is best known for being a bodyguard to celebrities including Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, and others.

Although Anwar was AKA’s bodyguard, he stated in an interview with IOL a month after his client’s death that he was not available that day when AKA was assassinated alongside his friend Tibz at the WISH restaurant in Durban.

He told the news publication that, “His death hit me in a lot of ways. It’s like why wasn’t I there? What if I was there, was I also going to be taken out? You don’t ever rule that out. Was it God’s timing? It hits you because it’s someone always here.

According to SowetanLive, the former bodyguard who owns a security company called Pentagon Group has taken care of Forbes’s security in Durban for the past eight years.

The co-accused, along with university employees and police officials, are allegedly involved in a corruption scheme worth millions at the institution on charges which include fraud, corruption, kidnapping, murder and attempted murder.

In the past, the University of Fort Hare has been accused of engaging in corrupt activities since 2022. Petrus Roets – who served as both transport and fleet manager – was assassinated following an attack on vice-chancellor Maxwell Sakhela Buhlungu’s bodyguard a year later.

There is speculation that this attack may have targeted Sakhela himself since it occurred just one year after his own attempted assassination, back in 2023.

The vice-chancellor told SowetanLIVE that those accused were dismissed or suspended.
