Veteran actress Joyce Skefu best known for the roles she played in local soapies Scandal, Muvhango and Abomama recently shared how suffering a mild stroke in March 2022 affected her mental health.

The actress who has been recounting her experience with stroke on social media, recently took to her Instagram page to share her ordeal.

In a series of testimonial videos that the thespian shared, she opened the video with a scripture from Isaiah 54 v 17 in the bible, “When the enemy comes flooding against you, I will lift up the standard against him and destroy him, and give you an expected end.”

As the series goes on, she shared how seeing young people die because of stroke took a toll on her mental health.

In the video where she speaks about mental health, Joyce revealed that she was afraid to sleep and took courage from the bible.

“I want to address the issue of mental health. The way my stroke happened shocked me. I was scared to sleep and I needed to sleep so my nervous system could relax. I could not sleep. Actually, I did not want to sleep,” said Joyce.

In previous videos where she was reflecting on the stroke, she explained that she woke up in the early hours of the morning needing to go to the bathroom when she realised she couldn’t walk  and struggled to get herself out of bed.

“First and foremost, there was no sign. I just woke up in the morning and I couldn’t walk.”

“I threw myself on the floor and I watched half of my body die slowly. It was so scary. It was traumatising. So I crawled on one side to go to the toilet,” the actress shared.
