South African rugby captain Siya Kolisi and his wife Rachel Kolisi jetted off to New York to attend the screening of Siya’s film Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Rachel took to Instagram to reveal to her fans that she was in New York to support her husband at the screening. Their trip included a dinner for the Kolisi Foundation, exploring New York and premiering for the film. She also revealed that the screening sold out.

“Just got into bed after an amazing day and night in New York! Celebrating the screening of RISE the Siya Kolisi Story at the Tribecca Film Festival ??,” she wrote in one post.

“Spent the day with our @rocnationsi fam today in NY. Also went to a SOLD OUT Tribeca screening of Rise the Siya Kolisi story! ❤️,” she said on another.

The documentary is a story of Siya’s journey from rags to riches, starting with his difficult upbringing in the Eastern Cape to captaining the Springboks for their 2019 Rugby World Cup win.

According to Supersport, Siya wanted to demonstrate that his story was the story of his community and his successes belong to those who have provided resources, opportunities, support, and care stood with him since his childhood.

“I wanted to showcase South Africa because it’s such a beautiful country, but I also wanted to authentically show viewers what the township looks like and how more people need to come and invest in these areas. For me, some of my best memories are from the township, and it’s the people in my community who motivate me every day.
