A customer’s R26 tip receives positive reactions from the internet

With the struggling state of our country’s economy, ordinary citizens are finding it extremely difficult to spend money on the costs of minor services as they did before.

This recently became evident when an X (previously Twitter) user with the handle @Lush_Beauty1 shared a post in which a customer paid their waiter R26.00 as a sign of appreciation for services rendered.

While the public assumption is usually that a customer has to pay 10% of the bill, the above-mentioned user appeared to be extremely surprised by the tip – especially since the bill amounted to more than R800.

Taking to the platform the user asked her followers to share their thoughts on whether they felt that R26 was a fair tip.

To this many people responded positively saying that customers are not obligated to pay the 10% percent, instead it is the restaurant owner’s responsibility to see that their employees get paid a decent salary.

Nothing, they didn’t eat for free. The employer is responsible for the waiters income, in return the waiters are employed to serve the clients at the employer’s cost.

Another user added that R26 is fair enough and explained that the amount paid as a tip is never entirely based on how much one spends. Instead, it usually depends on the quality of service received.

The service will tell if the waiter is getting a good tip. You can’t go all out tiping on sh*t service, worse these waiters sometimes act weird to black folks.

A third added that if that’s what the client can afford then it should be fair.

Good. R26 is what the person can afford. I personally do not like this tipping thing. I like to tip unexpectedly, from my heart.

Meanwhile, there are some users who felt that the decent thing to do is pay the 10%.

I always give 10%

For me personally, I don’t give anything less than 10% based on the service rendered. I love tipping, I don’t mind.

Very pathetic, I’m with the guy that said this was a black GUEST we always think tipping is a favour forgetting that the spent all their time giving us the service while we seated, it’s a big shame on us that support such mediocrity, average service I tip 12/14%, good service 20%
