Former security guard and viral content creator Thato Joseph Mashifane has seen a lot of success since his hilarious, wicked neighbour content blew up on social media, making him an instant hit.
The 27-year-old who hails from Limpopo is also a musician, a beatmaker and a music producer. Having left home for Johannesburg’s Daveyton to pursue his music career at a young age, Thato knew he needed to find employment to keep himself going.
In an audio interview with TshisaLIVE, the Grade 11 dropout shared that his hunger for music pushed him to leave school, head to the City of Gold to start his music journey.
While trying to gather funds to invest in his music career and take care of his family, the digital content creator started working as a security guard.
Early in 2022, Thato sadly lost his security guard job due to an ancestral calling which demanded for him to go back home to Limpopo.
Speaking of his instant fame with the publication presenter, Thato shared that he believes Sis Maria’s success is a gift given to him by his ancestors.
Thato also noted that his content was based on his childhood upbringing. His family did not get along with their neighbour who was also a family relative. Now grown, Thato shares that he wants people to be aware that not everyone you laugh with has your best interest at heart.
Centred around two neighbor characters, Sis Maria and Joyce, Thato’s content showcases a witchcraft-practicing Maria’s jealousy of Joyce and her daughter.
The digital content creator boasts a whopping 16.6 million views on his TikTok account and 1.4 million followers.
