With the recent death of the South African music giant Victor Bogopane who was popular in the music realm as Doc Shebeleza, mzansi can remember him with his iconic tunes.

The trailblazing kwaito artist made significant contribution in the music industry. Doc Shebeleza first rose to fame in the 1990s and early 2000s with chart toppers like Ingagara, Skumfete and Ghets Ghetsa. His debut album titled Shebeleza was released in 1995. Followed by S’kumfete with a hit of the same name.

After successful albums, the kwaito pioneer released three more albums titled Tiger, Ebumnandini and Jiva Yoyo.

He had a successful music career and clinched a Lifetime Achievement Award at the mzansi kwaito and House Music Awards in 2018. His music has influenced many artists including Cassper Nyovest who released a song titled Doc Shebeleza and L-Tido who sampled Ghets Ghetsa into his single, Steve Kekana.

Here are some of Doc Shebeleza’s hits:

  1. Ebumnandini

2. Ingwazi

3. Ingagara

4. Ghets Ghetsa

5. S’kumfete

The kwaito pioneer passed away at the age of 51, after enduring an illness. Confirming his death to Daily Sun, was her daughter Segaetsho.

“Yes, I can confirm that he passed away this morning,” his daughter said and mentioned that the family will release an official statement in due course.”

Doc first had a health scare which left him hospitalised for the weekend. According to ZiMoja, Doc Shebeleza was then rushed to hospital after he reportedly became debilitated.

Just before his death, Doc revealed that he was feeling a lot better, however, he was waiting to undergo surgery soon.
