As the country held its seventh democratic elections recently while celebrating thirty years of democracy, ordinary citizens including Mzansi celebrities shared election content on their social media pages.

Whilst many of us endured long voting queues, some local celebrities took time to send last-minute motivational words to those who were not sure on whether to vote or not. The celebrities were also requesting those at voting stations to be patient with the long queues.

Let us take a look at five celebrities out of the many, who went to cast their vote:

  1. Somizi Mhlongo – Media darling and businessman Somizi has been vocal about the upcoming elections on his social media pages, adding that he was looking forward to casting his vote. The former Idols SA judge did not only go to vote in the morning, but he did so wearing his nightgown. In true Som-Som style, he paired his nightgown with his clothing brand Sompire tracksuit and Versace designer shades.

2. Lady Du – Singer and businesswoman Lady Du was among those who made sure to take a video while dropping her ballot papers in the designated boxes. Taking time to motivate others to vote, the singer noted that she had been up since 4 am just to make sure she voted. She also added that while standing in the queue, she had lovely conversations with people.

4. Dr Musa Mthombeni and Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni – The married couple who we now count as one as they are inseparable, were among those who tried to beat the queues, waiting till it was late to cast their vote. The pair shared a few pictures on their Instagram pages, with Musa adding a bit of humour saying they did everything in just 12 minutes.

5. SK Khoza – Actor and singer Sthembiso Khoza also made sure to exercise his democratic right as he shared a video of his voting process. In the video, while standing in the queue leading to the voting centre, a female voice asked him if he was ready to vote. He responded saying he was, even though he was not sure who he would be voting for. He captioned his video post, “29th May 2024 I voted…”
