Fashion steals the spotlight at the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet

If awards season needed a dramatic opening chapter, the 2026 Golden Globes delivered it in full colour and high drama. As film and television’s biggest names gathered at the Beverly Hilton, the red carpet quickly became a runway of risk-taking glamour, signalling that safe fashion is officially off the table this year.

While Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and the limited series Adolescence dominated the ceremony itself, the style conversation belonged firmly to the stars climbing those iconic steps. Social feeds lit up early in the evening, with fashion fans praising a return to strong silhouettes, rich fabrics, and couture statements that felt intentional rather than predictable.

Teyana Taylor’s winning moment, in every sense

A few moments captured the mood of the night quite like Teyana Taylor. Fresh from securing her first Golden Globe for One Battle After Another, she arrived in a sculptural black Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown that hugged every curve. The sweeping train and dramatic bow at the back turned heads long before her name was announced, making it one of the most talked-about looks of the night online.

For many viewers, it felt symbolic. A first Globe, a fearless couture choice, and a sense that the evening belonged to stars willing to own their moment fully.

Black takes on new texture and attitude

Black gowns dominated, but none of them felt basic. Ariana Grande surprised fans by stepping away from her signature soft palette in favour of a textured black Vivienne Westwood creation. Styled by Law Roach, the sculpted bodice and puffed bell skirt brought theatrical flair without tipping into costume.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez leaned into her Old Hollywood reputation with a custom off-the-shoulder Chanel gown, accented by white feather detailing. The look felt timeless and intentional, earning praise across fashion commentary for its elegance and restraint.

Sheer fabrics and confident silhouettes

Sheer dressing continues its slow evolution, moving away from shock value and into refinement. Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for Die My Love, wore a nude-toned Givenchy gown with delicate floral detailing that felt effortless rather than exposed.

Jennifer Lopez also embraced the sheer trend, choosing a Jean Louis Scherrer by Stéphane Rolland mermaid-style gown. The shimmering lace and sculpted shape leaned into classic red carpet sensuality, proving the silhouette still has power when done right.

Green emerges as the colour of confidence

Amid the blacks and metallics, green emerged as the quiet power colour of the night. Olandria Carthen stood out in an emerald Christian Siriano gown with a dramatic mermaid finish, while Rose Byrne, who won Best Actress in a Motion Picture, opted for a striking green satin Chanel dress. Simple in structure and bold in tone, it photographed beautifully and quickly became a favourite in post-show fashion roundups.

Metallic drama closes the loop

Gold and silver rounded out the evening’s strongest looks. Tessa Thompson shimmered in a gold off-the-shoulder Balenciaga gown that felt modern yet statuesque. Chase Infiniti embraced full drama in a silver Louis Vuitton corset gown, reinforcing the sense that maximalism is back and unapologetic.

As the first major red carpet of the year, the 2026 Golden Globes did more than showcase beautiful clothes. It set a clear tone for the months ahead. This awards season is about presence, confidence, and fashion that tells a story the moment you step into the spotlight.
