WATCH: Jay Z admits to his infidelity and using music as therapy

by Kwanele Mathebula
Jay Z

Rapper and business mogul Jay Z gets candid about his marriage to Beyoncé, the challenges they have faced in their marriage and how music healed their relationship. In an interview with T Magazine, Jay Z admits that initially Beyoncé and him were meant to work on a joint album but the direction changed and birthed Lemonade instead.

Jay admits to being unfaithful to his wife Bey and also opens up about his infidelity which almost ended their relationship. He also shares how making music together served as therapy for the power couple. “We were sitting in the eye of that hurricane. And that’s where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations,” he shares.

The couple released their most vulnerable albums of their careers one year apart. Both albums gave a rare glimpse into the ups and downs of their relationship.

Take a look the interview clip.

“The strongest thing a man can do is cry,” Jay-Z said in a discussion with Dean Baquet, the executive editor of @nytimes. Recently, the 2 sat down for a discussion on topics that ranged from marriage to O.J. Simpson, the subject of a song from the rapper’s latest album, “4:44.” (Yesterday, Jay-Z received 8 #Grammy nominations for the album, which mixed dark personal confessions with meditations about race.) In this @tmagazine video, #JayZ discusses marriage: “You don’t want to look inside yourself, and so you walk away,” he says. The conversation is the cover story in @tmagazine’s 2017 Holiday issue.
