Incredible actress, Viola Davis made history last night as the first black woman to ever win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Seriously, this is really great but it’s also pretty sad that it’s taken this long.

After getting a hug from fellow nominee, Taraji P. Henson, the How To Get Away With Murder actress gave an emotional speech where she addressed the issue of inequality amongst black actresses and white ones in Hollywood.

Our favourite quote is when she says, “The only thing that separates women of colour from anyone else is opportunity. You can’t win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.” – Viola Davis

So true! We really hope studio execs take note and start creating more powerful roles for black women.

Congrats Viola!
