The song was released on 9 October 2026 as the opening track for his EP, WAV.SZN. In an Instagram post teasing the video, the musical artist shared some insight into what went into shooting the music video.

Benny Maverick explains his special project

Born Philani Kweyama, the artist shared a clip teasing his new music video, with a long caption expressing how special the project was for him.

“After months of following Senzelwe Mtshali and being entertained by his skits and creativity, I approached him to be the DOP for our music video. We gave him full creative freedom to execute his vision,” Benny wrote.

He spoke about the Durban-based content creator, comedian, filmmaker, and director who founded his own production company, Senzelwe Productions, whom he trusted to direct the music video.

Reflecting on the young man’s talent, he shared that tough Senzelwe didn’t know certain technical language beforehand, but he still did a beautiful job.

“The beautiful thing is he didn’t even know what a DOP is or what it means, yet he’s been doing this so well on his own work, reaching millions of viewers. He was perfect for this song.”

Benny Maverick’s inspiration for the music video

Benny Maverick shared that through his collaboration with various artists, he created a story based on some of the country’s most famous sitcoms.

“Together with Richard Blaq and Starlight Pictures, we created a story based around an old popular South African TV sitcom, Emzini Wezinsiswa. Mathandana Wami is a term of endearment from the show, which means ‘my love,’ said by the Malawian character Benson Chirwali,” Benny explained.

The project clearly held special meaning for him, and he expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped bring his vision to life.
