The ward victory puts Xolani in the spotlight as ActionSA continues to contest political leadership in Ekurhuleni. His mayoral ambitions have added further interest to the party’s performance in the local government elections.
The former host of the Moja Love crime-fighting show, Sizok’thola, contested Ward 6 while simultaneously campaigning for the mayoral position, a move that allowed him to seek representation at both ward and metro levels.
According to a report by Briefly News, he received 3,883 votes, with ActionSA securing 40.69% of the ward vote. The ANC came second with 32.87%. Xolani subsequently announced that he had been declared the councillor-elect.

What Xolani Khumalo has promised Ekurhuleni residents
During an interview with Caxton Local Media ahead of the 4 November elections, Xolani outlined several priorities should he become mayor.
Among his key promises were improving road infrastructure, addressing potholes, strengthening municipal relationships with businesses and ensuring more reliable water and electricity services.
He also pledged to tackle crime, corruption and drug-related activities through stronger law enforcement.
Xolani proposed adding 1,500 new Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) cadets to the existing workforce of 3,000 and establishing a dedicated narcotics unit within the department.
His mayoral ambitions
Xolani’s Ward 6 victory comes as ActionSA seeks to increase its representation and influence in the City of Ekurhuleni.
However, winning a ward does not automatically secure the mayoral position. The mayor is elected through the municipal council, and the outcome depends on the composition of the council and the councillors’ votes.
At the time of reporting, the broader Ekurhuleni election results were still being processed, with the Democratic Alliance, ANC and ActionSA among the parties contesting control of the municipality.
