by nikita.m

The Springboks aren’t only making history on the field — they’re also building legacies at home. A wave of baby news has swept through the Bok camp, with several players announcing that they’re expecting children in 2025.

For many, it’s their second time around, making this baby boom a particularly special chapter in the Springbok family story.

Rugby powerhouse Eben Etzebeth and his wife, actress and singer Anlia, welcomed their first child in January 2024. Just over a year later, the couple shared that baby number two is on the way. Anlia posted a tender Instagram snap in July, cradling her bump with the caption hinting at the excitement of expanding their family.

Fly-half Handre Pollard and his wife Marise introduced fans to their son, Hunter Andre, in April 2024. Now, the Pollards are preparing to welcome a baby girl. Marise revealed the happy news with a cosy Instagram update, writing about “22 weeks baby girl” while enjoying Pilates at home.

The de Klerks also joined the baby boom early. Scrum-half Faf and his wife Mine welcomed their first daughter in February 2024. Their second daughter is due this November, with Mine sharing her joy online and gushing about the baby gear that’s making the wait even more special.

A New Journey For Edwill and Nadine van der Merve

It’s not just second-time parents celebrating. Winger Edwill van der Merve and his wife Nadine announced in July that they’re expecting their very first child together. Nadine’s sweet Instagram caption — “Half of me and half of you” — captured the raw emotion of the milestone moment.

Fans Celebrate The Growing Bok Family

Social media has been flooded with congratulatory messages from supporters. For many fans, seeing their rugby heroes celebrate milestones off the pitch brings the Boks closer to home.

One fan wrote, “First they gave us the Webb Ellis Cup, now they’re giving us a new generation of Boks. What a time to be alive!”

More Than Just Rugby

South Africans have long embraced the Springboks as more than just sportsmen. They’re symbols of national pride, resilience, and hope. This wave of family news reinforces that — reminding fans that behind the green and gold jerseys are partners, parents, and families sharing in life’s biggest milestones.

With baby showers replacing bootcamps and nursery planning joining training schedules, 2025 is shaping up to be a year where the Bok legacy grows both on and off the field.
