Last year, while at my cousin’s wedding, I received the call that Akhumzi had left the earth. I dropped my phone, put on a straight face and continued with my family duties. The phone calls that followed during the day nearly broke me. I remember my husband telling me to switch off my phone. Still, at that time I hadn’t shared it with my family. We had tasks to fulfill and I had to keep it together. Walking into your mom’s house for the first time after made it also real. I’m healing. I’ve recently started being able to look at a picture of you without my chest tightening. Weeeeehhh Akhumzi. I don’t think even you know the gap you have left behind. This is still the biggest prank ever. Ngathi usazovuka. Thank you for everything Jezile. I remember us parked outside my house devouring Chicken Licken after church in your car. That is one of my fondest memories of you. I will forever love and cherish you. ♥️

Found out about your passing the day before preaching in Cape Town, the church leadership took me out for dinner, that call came in… I remember telling my manager I don’t think I’m strong enough to still teach. I then remembered our last conversation. Ah Akhumzi!!!???? pic.twitter.com/KiLaOO2vzD
