OPW host Nomsa Buthelezi opens up about dating a woman

OPW host Nomsa Buthelezi opens up about being lesbian dating a woman

Actress Nomsa Buthelezi shocked her fans recently when she publicly declared her love for her partner, Zandile – who just happens to be a woman

“Today I celebrate us… I celebrate our love and let mama universe keep us together. Happy birthday Zandile. I love you, my king is a woman,” she wrote on Instagram.

Many of her followers had no idea that she was gay.

They flooded the comments section with heart emojis and said they were happy she had found love.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Nomsa says that she has been dating Zandile for six months but is only talking about their relationship now because she is a very private person.

“I know most people think that me dating a girl has been a secret but it’s not a secret. I just haven’t been flaunting it,” she told the publication.

Nomsa added that she has been lesbian for “many years” of her life but only people close to her knew about her sexuality

She admits that she was in no hurry to publicly declare that she is gay after seeing how people from the LGBTQ community were constantly judged and insulted.

“I’ve been dating women for years. But because I once had a partner who was a guy it was hard for me to reclaim who I am publicly. It was hard. Usually coming out as a woman who dates other women is not easy, especially in townships. We are always scared of the reaction.”

The Our Perfect Wedding presenter says her post about her relationship with Zandile was not about coming out of the closet but a genuine declaration of love

She hopes her post will encourage other women to date whoever makes them happy regardless of their sex.

“I want to stand tall and say, ‘Hey, my name is Nomsa Buthelezi and I am dating another woman and there’s nothing wrong with that’.”
