by Amanda Ndlangisa

What is your favourite show?

Single Guys on SABC 1. I’m the lead actor in the comedy and I love the clever humour of the script.

Tell us more about Single Guys, are you involved behind the scenes as well?

My friends, Thomas Gumede and Ryan Metcalf approached me seven years ago to be part of the show as one of the producers. The show is funny and many people can relate to it because there are many single guys out there looking for girls. We have a lot of girls in our show – hotness one way, from yellow bones to dark Dindis. After so many years as an actor, I can finally say there is a show that I have ownership of, which is encouraging and more rewarding than a pay cheque.

How did you break into the acting industry?

Roberta Durrant, the creative producer and director at Penguin and Paw Paw Films gave me my first big break. I auditioned for a show and got the role. I must have impressed her because from there she introduced me to her friends and fellow producers. I did a lot of shows with her including Home Affairs and Shooting Stars. The mini-series, When We Were Black really pushed my career forward because people appreciated it and started recognizing me. I loved doing the show, its director Khalo Matabane, allowed us to explore and give a new creative level and style of performance.

You character on Isidingo, Sechaba, is a fan favourite. Are there any similarities between you and him?

We’re both very driven and passionate about people being treated fairly, and we are both handsome fellas.

Outside your acting career, what else are you pursuing?

I’m joining forces with Clint Brink and Dumi Masilela on a music project. This is something very special; people must keep their ears on the ground for this. I will also be doing a theatre piece very soon, which I can’t really say much about. A lot of people don’t know that I am in business with Thato Molamu (Nicholas from Generations) and Metro FM DJ, Tbo-Touch and we have a condom brand, called Moods Condoms, that is available at all garages and various outlets country wide.

How have you managed to stay out of the public eye?

I mind my own business and I live a normal life. According to the law of attraction, you attract what you are… I don’t attract attention, because I don’t cause attention.
