Award-winning director Ava DuVernay will direct a documentary series based on late pop icon, Prince for Netflix. In an interview with Deadline, she shared that in addition to Prince’s estate choosing to collaborate with her on the documentary, prior to his death, Prince had reached out to her about working together.

“He shattered every preconceived notion, smashed every boundary, shared everything in his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate” she shared.
