5 Mins With Pam Andrews

She has blown us away with her character, Gail, on Rhythm City; therefore we are sad to see her leave the acting industry in pursuit of her music. She chats to us about her future plans.

You will be doing your last shoot for Rhythm City soon, please tell us more?

I am leaving the acting world to put more focus on my music. I’m working with new and talented producers for my next EP.

Why leave the acting industry where you had become so well established?

That is the exact reason I’m leaving. I feel I have reached my goal and fulfilled my passion in the industry. I am happy with what I have done so far as an actor and am ready to take on my singing passion to the next level.

What can we expect from the EP?

My team and I have been working on some new songs. My music has no set genre because I do not like to limit myself. So, it will be ‘feel good’ music – music for everyone and anyone. It has a touch of this and that, which I think will relate to music lovers. People should expect my first single on 26 March.

You are an actress, mother, wife and also working on your music. How are you juggling everything?

I try and do it all. I spend most of the time at the studio when I am not shooting for Rhythm City. But my family does come first and every day I make sure I fetch my son from school, cook and spend time with my loved ones. I then head back to the studio and also visit the gym as often as possible.

Speaking of gym, is it part and parcel of maintaining your body? What advice do you have for people who want to keep fit?

It is very simple…eat the right food! Food is an essential part of your health. I have a clean diet and avoid toxic foods. Avoid too much alcohol, smoking and fast foods. A good diet can go a long way when it comes to fitness.

What advice can you give mothers?

Get help! I have three nannies who work with me. I think you need help; you cannot do it alone. Perhaps budget for one nanny or get free help from friends and family – just never think you can do it alone.

How important is image to you, be it your fashion style, body and fitness?

I do my own thing; I do not like following trends. I like being unique and setting my own trends. Another thing is I love standing out; I like being that girl that shocks people on the red carpet.

You are always on that new hair look. What is your secret?

I have a budget for hair. Every month I plan when it is I will be visiting my salon and what I will be putting on. Planning is important to me.

Who would you say is your icon when it comes to acting?

Meryl Streep. I have often channelled her in my scenes. She is an amazing actress.

You have spoken a few times about having a budget. With that in mind, what financial tip do you have for others?

The budget plan works for me. I take a big chunk of my money and divide it between the months and activities I will spend it. I budget for everything, from monthly groceries to clothes.

Are you ever going to act again, or will Rhythm City be the last of it?

I would love to get back into acting. I am interested in movies; the South African movie industry is growing right now and that is where I would like to be.
