Springbok captain Siya Kolisi surprised audiences at the Baxter Theatre when he walked on stage at the end of the opening night of Colleen the Musical to congratulate Marc Lottering and sing Happy Birthday, reports Cape {town} Etc.
News24 states the moment came after the show on 4 December, which is Lottering’s birthday.
Kolisi spoke warmly about his friend before the song according to the Daily Voice.
He told the audience that Lottering had been ‘a blessing’ in his life and praised the comedian’s ability to bring joy and spark important conversations. ‘His shows are funny but also very educational,’ Kolisi said.

Colleen the Musical opened in Cape Town at the end of November. The production is led by producer Anwar Mc Kay and director Lara Foot.
Musical direction is by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and choreography is by Grant Van Ster.
The cast includes David Chevers, Carlo Daniels, Jill Levenberg, Sizwesandile Mnisi, Kate Normington and Anzio September (marclottering.com).
Audience members posted clips of the surprise online and described the moment as heartfelt.
The gesture gave the evening a warm, personal close and added extra meaning to Lottering’s birthday celebration.
Tickets for the run at the Baxter remain available while the season continues.
