Robbie Williams Opens Up About Troubling Vision Side Effects
Robbie Williams, the 51-year-old British pop superstar known for his openness with fans, has issued a stark warning about potential vision problems linked to the weight-loss injections he’s been using.
The singer, who has been taking Mounjaro, revealed that his eyesight has become progressively blurred over recent months, a change he now attributes to the injections.
Blurred Lines Between Stage and Reality
Williams first noticed the problem at an American football game, where players on the field appeared as little more than “shapes.” On stage, the issue has been equally unsettling. During a recent concert, while singing the romantic hit She’s The One directly to a fan, he admitted he could barely make out her face.
“This isn’t just about me, it’s about awareness,” Williams told The Sun. “I want to warn people reading this of the potential risks, to make sure they do their research. I wish I had linked my blurry vision to Mounjaro sooner.”
Despite these concerns, he joked that he might continue taking the injections “until the sight in one eye has completely gone,” highlighting his complex balancing act between physical and mental health.
Mind and Body: The Trade-Offs
For Williams, the benefits of Mounjaro have gone beyond the physical. He credits the injections with easing a long-standing battle with mental health struggles. Yet the potential side effects, particularly on eyesight, are a serious caveat that he wants fans and the public to understand.
Recent medical studies have flagged an association between semaglutide—the class of drugs Mounjaro belongs to—and a rare eye condition called non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Patients on semaglutide were shown to have a slightly higher risk of developing NAION, though the overall risk remains low.
Regulatory Warnings and Global Advice
Authorities have begun to respond. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) updated its product information to list NAION as a “very rare” side effect, occurring in roughly 1 in 10,000 users. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a safety alert, advising anyone experiencing sudden vision loss or rapid deterioration while on semaglutide to seek medical attention immediately.
A Call for Awareness
As a global pop icon, Robbie Williams’ decision to speak out amplifies the message: even popular weight-loss treatments marketed as “miracle solutions” can carry unforeseen risks. Social media has been abuzz with fans expressing concern and support, with many urging others to follow his advice to monitor their health carefully.
Williams’ warning is clear: do your homework, be vigilant, and take potential side effects seriously. In his own words, “these treatments might help your body or mind, but your vision is priceless, don’t gamble with it.”
