How to strobe like Nhlanhla Nciza

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

Strobing is a new form of contouring, which works with lighter and darker shade cosmetics to make your face smaller and/or pop as desired. It’s a high intensity highlighting of the face on places the light hits first. From Kim Kardashian’s Instagram to the YouTube tutorials, contouring has become famous and has evolved in application.

Follow these steps to strobe your face like Nhlanhla Nciza:

  • Moisturiser: Strobing is about getting that perfect glow, so you need to replenish your skin with a good moisturiser before applying make-up.
  • Foundation: Apply liquid foundation to your face, neck and ears to give you coverage and an even tone look.
  • Concealer: Begin contouring your face by applying concealer on areas that will be highlighted – forehead, bridge of nose, above your lip, chin, under the eyes and on the brow bone – then blend using a brush.
  • Highlighters: Using an angle brush or sponge, go over the contoured areas with an illuminating powder, then top off with some bronzer or highlighting powder.
  • Blush: Give your cheeks definition by stroking some blush on them. A hint of bronzer on the blush will give them an added glow.
  • Final touches: Finish off your look by applying eyeliner and mascara, and a lip gloss shade of choice.
  • Tip: A rich shade of lipstick will work best for an evening event as this will add character to the look.
