Basic day time skin care routine

There is no need to break the bank with a complicated, multiple step skin care routine, especially if you are on a budget. A simple skin care routine is all you need this summer.

In order to simplify your routine and still manage your skin care concerns and protect your skin effectively, you can use the four basic steps to achieve this. A cleanser, serum, moisturiser and sunscreen is all you need for a basic day time skin care routine.

Cleanser:

A cleanser is the first step to any skin care routine to clean your face effectively. Depending on your individual skin care concerns, you may want to select a cleanser that is suited to your skin type. There are many affordable cleansers to choose from that targets different skin concerns. If shopping for skin care is a daunting task for you, and you are unsure on what to purchase, you could try a gentle cleanser that will not be too harsh for your skin. Whether you have oily, dry or combination skin, hydration is always needed to protect your skin barrier and a cleanser that has hyaluronic acid is a great choice.

Serum:

Adding a serum into your skin care routine can make all the difference. There are plenty serum options to choose from to target your skin concerns. If you are in need of some extra hydration, you could look for a serum with hyaluronic acid. If you are looking to target any dark marks, you could look into alpha arbutin to help reduce the appearance of dark marks. Niacinamide is another great option for a serum that helps with many concerns. This active ingredient is perfect for evening out your skin, to improve skin brightness, it helps to regulate oil production and it also helps to minimise pore reduction among other things.

Moisturisers:

Moisturisers are essential for your day time and night time skin care routine. Even if you have oily skin, do not skip this step. Shopping for moisturisers can also be a daunting task because the options are so vast. Shopping by skin type could help you narrow down your options. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, adding a cream that is thicker than a lotion to your skin care routine is great if you have dry skin because they add and lock in moisture. They go on to add that a moisturiser that has a more gel like consistency is great for oily skin types.

Sunscreen:

Finally, sunscreen is the final step to your basic skin care routine. Summer days are around the corner and you will want to protect your face from the harmful rays of the sun. Always add your sunscreen as the last step in your skin care routine after applying your moisturiser. It is also important to apply enough sunscreen to protect your face, neck and ears. The two finger rule is great to remind yourself of the appropriate amount of sunscreen to add. Squeeze out sunscreen along your index and middle finger and apply that to your face, neck and ears. If you are spending most of your days outside, remember to reapply sunscreen after two hours.
