The Yankees wrapped up their nine-game road trip on the West Coast with a solid 7–3 win over the Dodgers on Sunday, thanks to a standout performance from Ryan Yarbrough and DJ LeMahieu’s first four-hit game since 2021. However, the team heads back to New York with fresh injury concerns.
Young outfielder Jasson Domínguez left the game after injuring his left thumb while stealing second base in the fifth inning. Closer Luke Weaver also sat out due to hamstring discomfort. Both will be assessed in New York on Monday during the team’s rest day.
Domínguez, who slid in headfirst and jammed his unprotected left thumb on the base, was optimistic about his condition: “I don’t think it’s serious. We’ll check tomorrow, but I already feel better.” He mentioned that he might start wearing protective gear on both hands going forward.
At the time of Domínguez’s injury, Anthony Volpe was at the plate facing pitcher Anthony Banda. Though Domínguez successfully stole the base, the impact left him visibly uncomfortable.
Manager Aaron Boone had planned to use Weaver in the ninth inning, even with the Yankees holding a comfortable lead. LeMahieu’s fourth hit of the game extended the lead to four runs, but the intention to bring Weaver in didn’t change. That plan, however, fell through.
“He felt something after he warmed up,” Boone explained. “Then when he went to stretch, he felt a pull in the middle of his hamstring. So we had to change plans quickly. We’re hoping it’s nothing too serious.”
Tim Hill stepped in and closed the game, recording the final three outs. Weaver, who has been impressive this season with a 1.05 ERA and eight saves from nine chances, initially started the year as a setup man for Devin Williams. He’s since reclaimed the closer role and has been in top form.
Boone ended by saying, “We’ll see where things stand when we get back home.”
