Steelers still waiting on Rodgers decision

The Pittsburgh Steelers remain in limbo as they await free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ decision ahead of the 2025 season.

Team owner Art Rooney II acknowledged the uncertainty this week, saying only, “A little while longer,” echoing his April 1 comments.

The Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract and selected Ohio State’s Will Howard in the draft. However, Rodgers would be the immediate starter if he joins.

Rodgers, 41, has held multiple conversations with Pittsburgh and reportedly has a strong relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin. Still, his drawn-out timeline and underwhelming 2024 season have led some to call for closure.

CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo urged the Steelers to “pull the plug on the Rodgers experiment,” arguing the wait no longer matches the value Rodgers brings at this stage in his career.

Rodgers biographer Ian O’Connor believes a decision is near. “If I had $100 to put down, my feeling is he will be in uniform June 10th for the start of the mandatory minicamp,” O’Connor said on 93.7 The Fan.

Rodgers addressed the situation in April on The Pat McAfee Show, saying he has been transparent with the Steelers. “If you need to move on, by all means,” he said, emphasizing his willingness to let the team decide without pressure.

O’Connor also reported that Tomlin gave ownership a verbal “sign-off” on pursuing Rodgers, but the quarterback himself reportedly told the team to “please move on” if his timeline didn’t align with their plans.

Rodgers has made it clear: his next stop won’t be about money, but about being a starting quarterback and a team leader.
