The Indianapolis Colts have secured the long-term future of left tackle Bernhard Raimann, signing the 2022 third-round pick to a four-year, $100 million contract extension, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Raimann, a converted tight end from Central Michigan, has developed into one of the team’s cornerstone players. The Austrian-born lineman was entering the final year of his rookie deal, but the new contract ensures he remains in Indianapolis through the 2028 season.
“Bernhard has worked extremely hard, and this contract extension is a testament to his character, dedication and persistence,” said Colts general manager Chris Ballard. “He exemplifies each of our team’s four pillars and is a leader in our locker room.”
Raimann has only played offensive tackle since 2020, when COVID shortened his junior college season to six games. Despite his limited experience at the position, his improvement over the past two NFL seasons has been rapid, with his performance in 2023 cementing his role as the team’s left tackle of the future.
Negotiations appeared to hit a snag earlier this month. Raimann told Indianapolis radio station 107.5-FM that the sides weren’t on the same page. “From my understanding, the numbers don’t quite add up yet,” he said. “But we’re working on it.”
Ultimately, both parties reached a deal that reflects Raimann’s rising value and importance. The move comes at a key time for the Colts, who are revamping their offensive line following the free-agent departures of center Ryan Kelly and guard Will Fries, both of whom signed with the Vikings.
NFL Network first reported the terms of the deal. The $100 million extension places Raimann among the highest-paid left tackles in the NFL and secures vital protection for young quarterback Anthony Richardson heading into a pivotal 2025 campaign.
