Nomzamo Tells Us Sweet Something

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

Feb15_Cover_bn The lovely Nomzama Mbatha tells us about her role on the new rom-com Tell Me Sweet Something.
By Boitumelo Mmakou

She’s proven her versatility by being a great actress and TV presenter. Now, Nomzamo Mbatha is moving from the small screen to the silver screen as Moratuwa on Tell Me Sweet Something; she gives us the details on her role.

Are you and your character Moratuwa anything alike?

My character is three years older than I am, and because of that, there is a major difference. There is a lot that can happen to a woman in a space of three years. This makes Moratuwa more experienced and mature. We are both strong-minded and head-strong. She’s loveable and friendly, she’s every girl’s best friend; when you meet her, you immediately want to have her as a friend – I love that about her.

What did you learn from playing this character and being a part of this film?

I learnt that it is never too late to give love a chance and to try something new.

Do you think women could relate to Moratuwa on her ideal man checklist?

Most women are not looking for an experience, but looking for “the one”; if the guy does not have everything, then he doesn’t stand a chance. I think you’ll have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince; not just any frog of course – you have to be cautious but don’t limit yourself. Moratuwa learnt that sometimes love comes in a different form and women need to open themselves to that idea.

What’s the greatest lesson of love that you have learnt?

You don’t have to please people, but rather do what makes you happy. Don’t let others cloud your judgement.

In the movie, we see a lot of friendship dynamics. What’s your take on a friendship?

To me, a friend is someone you share your personal life with and someone you can learn from. That should be someone you value and who can help change you for the better.

You have made it to the big screen, what‘s next?

I am working on my next project that I cannot say much about right now. The BONA readers will be the first to know! Watch the trailer for  Tell Me Sweet Something here. It screens at cinemas this Friday, the 4th September. Will you be watching?
