The free, open-air concert and cultural showcase serves as the Mother City’s official entry into the holiday season, annually drawing tens of thousands of residents, families, and domestic and international visitors into the heart of the CBD for an evening of shared celebration.

A star-studded roster for Mzansi’s biggest free concert

Nasty C leads a dynamic and genre-defying roster of top-tier South African talent assembled for this milestone 2026 celebration. Joining the hip-hop titan on the main stage is the newly reunited electronic R&B duo Liquideep, promising a hit-filled set that appeals to nostalgia lovers across the country.

The line-up is further bolstered by SAMA award-winning amapiano powerhouses Jazzwrld and Thukuthela, whose high-energy beats are set to keep the crowd dancing throughout the evening.

The diverse musical programme also features popular Afrikaans pop vocalist and Idols SA alumna Monique Steyn, Cape Town’s very own Khayelitsha-born rap favourite Dee Koala, Woodstock singer-songwriter Ricky Vani Frontline, and master guitarist Vernon White.

Running continuously from 16:00 to 22:00, the evening’s festivities will be seamlessly hosted by beloved radio personality Tyrone Paulsen alongside popular local comedian Dalin Oliver.

Celebrating heritage, community, and grassroots talent

Beyond showcasing mainstream chart-toppers, the Festive Lights Switch-On maintains its long-standing commitment to uplifting grassroots culture, local community groups, and emerging talent.

The 2026 programme includes a mesmerising LED visual performance by Neon Pulse, rich cultural showcases from the West London All Stars, and vibrant live DJ sets courtesy of Heart FM’s DJ Dre.

In an exciting addition for youth culture, the main stage will also host the top three finalists of the citywide Move with Melody dance competition, giving rising street dancers the rare opportunity to showcase their craft alongside Mzansi’s biggest musical icons.

The spectacular evening culminates with the ceremonial switching on of the famous festive light displays stretching across Adderley and Darling streets, illuminating the Mother City and officially signalling the start of the summer holiday season.
