Up-and-comer Swiss Wrld finds amapiano rhythm with soulful approach

South Africa’s amapiano scene continues to make room for fresh sounds and emerging talent, with Katlehong-born producer Swiss Wrld looking to make his contribution through music that connects with listeners on an emotional level.

Born Asanda Atlehang Mgcina, the producer grew up in a musical family, where his love for music developed naturally. His upbringing in the East Rand also played an important role in shaping his identity, particularly when it comes to the sounds he creates.

For Swiss Wrld, representing where he comes from remains an important part of his journey.

Rooted in the East Rand sound

The East Rand has its own distinctive approach to amapiano, something Swiss Wrld says has heavily influenced his production style.

“The type of amapiano that’s made in the East Rand, which is where I come from, is very unique on its own,” he explained to BONA.

That influence is reflected in his appreciation for the soulful side of the genre. Rather than restricting his creativity to a particular mood, he allows his emotions to guide the music he makes.

“With music, I make music based on a feeling and mood, so whether it’s happiness, sadness, that’s how I approach music.”

His approach changes when he prepares to DJ. Instead of focusing primarily on his own feelings, he considers the audience and researches the venue before putting together a set.

Swiss Wrld on working with Mathye Vho Murumba

An important career opportunity came when Swiss Wrld met former Murumba Pitch member Mathye Vho Murumba at a studio camp in Bryanston.

Mathye took an interest in his production approach, and after exchanging contact details, the two eventually worked together on the 2025 album Emmanuel.

The experience allowed Swiss Wrld to connect with more people in the industry while learning from someone with valuable experience.

“It has exposed me to a lot of different people that are in the industry,” he shared, adding that Mathye’s guidance has taught him a great deal about navigating his career.

The pair have since worked on other projects, including Amanxeba, featuring Noex, which dropped on Friday, 30 October 2026.

A milestone worth celebrating

One release that stands out in his journey is Hade Hade, featuring Youme. The single became his first independently released track to surpass 300,000 streams across digital platforms.

Looking ahead, Swiss Wrld hopes to contribute to amapiano’s continued international growth, particularly through its soulful sound.

“I would like my music to be represented as one of the bricks that are layered on the wall of international amapiano. I believe every amapiano [artist] plays a very big role in taking the genre to the world,” he told BONA.

As for where he sees himself in the next three to five years, he leaves the outcome in God’s hands: “I would like to see myself where God intends me to be, because I live by His grace.”

For now, Swiss Wrld’s focus remains on making music that speaks to the soul while carrying his East Rand influences into the wider amapiano movement.
