L’vovo returns to stage following outpouring of support from Mzansi

by Staff Bona

L’vovo Derrango is set to return to the stage, marking a significant moment in his recovery journey after an emotional outpouring of support from South Africans.

As reported by Briefly News, the kwaito star, whose real name is Thokozani Ndlovu, has been added to the line-up for Mayonie Open Air, taking place on 29 August 2026 at Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga, Durban. He will perform alongside artists including DJ Kent, Bucie and NaakMusiQ.

For L’vovo, the booking represents more than another festival appearance. It comes after years of rebuilding his health and confidence following a stroke that struck while he was performing in KwaZulu-Natal in December 2022.

Mzansi shows support

As previously reported by BONA, the musician opened up about the challenges he faced during his recovery, including financial hardship, difficulties with speech and reduced mobility.

His candid interview on Gagasi FM resonated deeply with listeners and sparked a fundraising campaign to assist with his physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

The response was substantial, with donations surpassing R280 000 within days. Importantly, fundraiser organiser Yenziwe Qiniso Ndimande stressed that L’vovo had not asked for the donations.

By July, L’vovo said his recovery had progressed considerably. He was walking, exercising and speaking more clearly, while continuing to work on the arm affected by the stroke.

A comeback with meaning

His upcoming performance is therefore a milestone for both the artist and his supporters. L’vovo has spoken about wanting his experience to encourage others facing adversity, particularly stroke survivors.

With his return to the stage now confirmed, Mzansi will have an opportunity to see a beloved kwaito performer begin what promises to be a meaningful new chapter.
