Zandile Dabula, an anti-immigration activist and the former president of the controversial Operation Dudula, announced her resignation from the movement as its leader and a member of the political party. She revealed the reason for her effective departure in a statement shared on Thursday, 14 May 2026.

Zandile mentioned that her decision had not been taken lightly. She noted that it “followed a long period of introspection regarding the future direction of the organisation,” her own role within it, and “the broader responsibility we carry towards the people who’ve supported the movement from the beginning.”
The former leader reflected on Operation Dudula’s internal debates, touching on concerns that it became a political party earlier than necessary.
“While I respected and supported the collective decisions taken by the organisation at the time, I’ve come to accept that my own vision for the future of the movement differs from the current political direction being pursued.”
She also shared, “There was a growing appreciation amongst some of us that the organisation had built strong influence and impact as a civic movement rooted in activism, advocacy, and community mobilisation.”
Zandile also mentioned that she had witnessed differing views on leadership and felt it was best to remove herself from the organisation.
“I am not abandoning the struggle; I am not breaking down; I am not retreating from the issues I raised six years ago.”
