A viral video showing two women allegedly handling firearms inside a home has sparked widespread debate online and prompted a warning from the South African Police Services (SAPS) about responsible gun ownership and firearm safety.

The clip, which has been circulating across social media platforms, shows the women appearing to handle guns casually while recording videos indoors. While the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the footage have not been fully verified, the video quickly drew attention from concerned viewers, with many questioning whether proper firearm safety procedures were followed.

This is dangerous and reckless behaviour.
South African Police Service please we need to find these women and lock them up. This is a serious breach of the FCA.

Authorities have since responded to the viral footage, issuing a stern warning to the public against reckless handling of firearms and reminding gun owners about the legal responsibilities that come with possessing a weapon.

According to police, firearms should always be handled responsibly, safely stored, and kept out of unsafe environments to prevent accidents or injuries. Officials also warned that displaying guns irresponsibly on social media could encourage dangerous behaviour and influence younger audiences negatively.

SAPS also reminded firearm owners that they carry a legal responsibility to ensure their firearms are not accessed or used by people who do not have the required competency certificates or firearm licences.

“The South African Police Service has noted with serious concern a video circulating on social media depicting women allegedly handling and cocking firearms inside a house. SAPS therefore warns that the reckless handling and misuse of firearms pose a serious danger to both the individuals involved and members of the public.

“SAPS wishes to remind members of the public that firearms are not toys and should never be used recklessly, displayed irresponsibly, or handled for entertainment purposes, including for social media content.

“The public is urged to act responsibly and to report any illegal possession, misuse, or reckless handling of firearms to the nearest police station or anonymously through the Crime Stop number 08600 10111,” they said.

The incident has reignited conversations around gun culture and online behaviour in South Africa, where videos involving firearms often spark strong public reactions.

While some social media users viewed the clip as attention-seeking content, others expressed concern over the possible safety risks involved. Many online commenters stressed that firearms should never be treated casually, regardless of whether the weapons were licensed or unloaded.

The viral clip also raised broader questions about social media trends and the lengths some people go to for online attention and engagement. As the video continues circulating online, debates around accountability, firearm safety and responsible digital conduct are expected to continue.
