The proud moment of finally graduating from university should never be taken for granted. When autumn arrives in South Africa, grad season begins.

Thousands of students from different institutions graduate at this time. Graduation ceremonies hold significant importance as they highlight proud moments, the struggles endured and the sense of pride that comes with completing one’s qualification.

Gaining admission to any university in South Africa is an achievement in itself, but graduating takes that accomplishment to another level. Over the past two months, autumn graduations in South Africa have been celebrated at various institutions. These events have been vibrant showcases of pride, resilience and style, seamlessly blending academic achievement with rich cultural heritage.

Some graduates have showcased fashion-forward traditional attire, including traditional beadwork, accompanied by family, dancing and celebrating this momentous milestone.

The University of Free State had an extra special moment when triplets and twins graduated at the same time. This displayed a shared journey of resilience, achievements and passion for what the future holds.  The Mbiyo triplets walked across the stage together, receiving their Bachelor of Laws degrees. Twins Dévano Arries and Devino Arries were among the graduates getting their Bachelor of Arts in Governance and Political Transformation.

Dali Mpofu’s daughter, Zwekazi Mpofu, also graduated this season, earning a Bachelor of Commerce from UCT. Her dad took to X to celebrate.
