Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz after beating him in an intense Monte Carlo Masters final.
Jannik Sinner is back at the top of the ATP rankings for the first time in 2026. Carlos Alcaraz needed to win the final to retain his world No. 1 status, but yesterday, he choked at the finals.

The conditions in Monte-Carlo were gusty, but Sinner handled the gusty conditions better than his rival Alcaraz to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to take the coveted spot at the top of the ATP rankings.
This win underlines a stunning period of good form for the four-time Grand Slam champion, Jannik. His claiming the crown in Monte-Carlo has now extended Sinner’s winning streak at the Master’s 1000 level to 22, while he remains undefeated in 17 straight matches.

“We came here just trying to get as many matches as possible before the other big tournaments coming up. Today was a very high level from both of us,” Sinner said in an on-court interview after the match. “It was a bit windy, breezy, completely different conditions from the tournament that the tournament has brought until today. “The result (is amazing, getting back to number one means a lot to me. At the same time, as I always say, the ranking is secondary. I’m very happy to win at least one big trophy on this surface.”
The last time these two met was nearly five months ago at the ATP Finals, where Sinner beat Alcaraz. Fans were eagerly looking forward to yesterday’s Final.
