It’s not just the 56km ultra marathon that is on the agenda. The Two Oceans event has a list of bumper runs for everyone to take part in. The event has the main event, the 56 km ultra marathon, the trail runs, the kids’ fun runs, the international friendship run and the official half marathon happening Sunday, the 12th of April.
All these different running events inspire many fitness enthusiasts to put on their running gear and connect with runners from around the world.
Before heading to the races, remember to visit the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Expo, which began yesterday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Race pack collection and registration will also take place at CTICC until April 11, 2026.
According to the Two Oceans Marathon website, “the ultra-Marathon (56km) will cover the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, challenging runners with the steep ascent of Chapman’s Peak (28-34km) and Constantia Nek (42-47km). The half-marathon (21.1km) will have runners pass through Claremont, Wynberg, and Constantia before finishing at UCT.”
One of the most anticipated returnees is last year’s women’s record holder, Gerda Steyn, who is aiming for a seventh title, while the men’s side will again try to aim at breaking Thompson Magawana’s 1988 mark.
Joseph Khoarahlane will also be returning as the defending champion. Another exciting returnee at this year’s Two Oceans is Four-time Olympian Irvette van Zyl. Van Zyl is determined to turn last year’s heartbreak into triumph as an illness cruelly denied her a finish in last year’s event.
