Late heartbreak for Liverpool at Molineux

Liverpool’s push for a top-four finish suffered a painful setback after Wolves snatched a dramatic 94th-minute winner at Molineux.
The match began with a moment of reflection. Supporters from both clubs paid tribute to former Wolves and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car crash last July. Banners honouring the Portuguese international were displayed across the stadium before kick-off.
On the pitch, Liverpool controlled possession for much of the first half but struggled to turn dominance into clear chances against Wolves goalkeeper José Sá.
Wolves struck first when Tolu Arokodare outmuscled Virgil van Dijk and set up Rodrigo Gomes, who calmly chipped Alisson to put the hosts ahead.
Liverpool responded through Mohamed Salah, who capitalised on a Wolves mistake to level the score and end a goal drought that stretched back to November.
The contest opened up after the break, with chances at both ends. Teenage prospect Rio Ngumoha came close for Liverpool when his effort rattled the post.
But Wolves had the final say. In stoppage time, André fired a shot that deflected off Joe Gomez and beat Alisson, sealing a dramatic victory.
For Wolves, it was only their third league win of the season. Yet their recent home form has surprised many, with victories over Liverpool and Aston Villa and a draw against Arsenal in their last three matches at Molineux.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted his side had once again fallen short in familiar fashion.
“This is the same old story,” Slot said after the match. “It is another setback and we didn’t help ourselves with the result.”

Everton find their rhythm at new stadium

While Liverpool endured late heartbreak, Everton finally enjoyed a long-awaited win at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
David Moyes’s side defeated Burnley 2-0 to end a seven-match winless run at home and strengthen their hopes of securing European football next season.
The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute when defender James Tarkowski rose highest to power a header into the net from James Garner’s cross. It was a particularly satisfying moment for Tarkowski against his former club.
Everton doubled their advantage just after the hour mark. Iliman Ndiaye slipped Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall through on goal and the midfielder produced a delicate finish over Martin Dúbravka for his sixth league goal of the campaign.
The Toffees nearly added a third when Idrissa Gueye struck the crossbar with a curling effort.
The win lifts Everton to eighth place with 43 points, putting them within reach of the European qualification spots.
Leeds suffer setback as Sunderland take the points

At Elland Road, Leeds United missed a chance to move further away from the relegation battle after losing 1-0 to Sunderland.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead when Joe Rodon found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Sunderland’s decisive moment came in the second half after a VAR review confirmed a handball by Ethan Ampadu. Habib Diarra stepped up and converted the penalty, securing all three points for the visitors.
The result moves newly promoted Sunderland onto 40 points and effectively clears them from relegation danger.
For Leeds, however, the defeat keeps them nervously looking over their shoulder as the Premier League season heads into its final stretch.
