SAFA And Adidas reveal new South Africa home jersey for 2026

by nikita.m

South African football fans woke up to a wave of nostalgia and national pride today as SAFA and adidas officially unveiled the new South Africa home jersey for the 2026/2027 season. It’s more than a kit launch. It feels like the opening note of a new football chapter, one that blends memory, identity and ambition.

A jersey rooted in 2010, reimagined for a new era

The first thing fans will notice is the familiar flash of yellow and green. The colour palette instantly recalls the 2010 World Cup, a time when the country stood centre stage and its football culture was celebrated across the globe. That historic jersey served as the creative heartbeat of the new design, but this updated version takes things forward with a cleaner silhouette, modern detailing and performance-focused tailoring.

adidas designers added a subtle pattern within the fabric to honour South Africa’s 12 official languages. It’s a quiet but powerful reminder that the national teams speak for all of us, no matter which language we grew up with. It’s a nod to unity at a time when football is one of the few places where the entire country still comes together, whether at stadiums, fan parks or packed living rooms.

Built For Bafana, Banyana and the future

One of the standout features of the new jersey is its commitment to both men’s and women’s football. With bespoke fits designed specifically for Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana, the kit signals an equal spotlight on both teams as they gear up for major tournaments.

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao says the launch marks a moment of motivation for every level of the national setup. Junior players, she believes, will look at this jersey not just as a uniform but as a symbol of where they hope to be.

And the timing couldn’t be more meaningful. Banyana Banyana will debut the kit in just two weeks at WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, while Bafana Bafana will showcase it on the world stage when they face Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Modern tech for a modern game

Beyond the aesthetics, the jersey is built for top performance. With CLIMACOOL+ technology, 3D body mapping and engineered stretch fabrics, the kit is designed to help players stay cool under pressure and in high-temperature match environments. Mesh zones and perforated three-stripe panels make ventilation a priority, which will be crucial as the teams head into intense international fixtures.

Even the crest has been upgraded. The lenticular heat-applied badge gives the jersey a shapeshifting visual effect, adding a bold modern edge that fans are already calling a collector’s item in the making.

A new symbol for the journey ahead

For many South Africans, football is emotional. It’s personal. The launch of the 2026/2027 home jersey arrives at a time when both national teams are pushing for greater global recognition. As SAFA and adidas step into a new cycle, this jersey stands as a symbol of belief, unity and the constant evolution of South African football.

The away jersey will follow on 19 March 2026, with the home kit officially hitting adidas stores, the adidas website and selected retailers on 20 March.

Whether worn at stadiums, in neighbourhood parks or simply around town, this jersey represents a country that continues to rise, compete and dream together.
