Bafana Bafana supporters are finally getting something they have been asking for for years. A chance to wear official merch that does not require a full paycheque. This week, SAFA confirmed a new partnership with Pick n Pay Clothing that will bring official Bafana merchandise to everyday shoppers across South Africa.
A win for fans ahead of the World Cup
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup only months away, excitement is already building. SAFA’s announcement on Monday morning could not have come at a better time. The organisation revealed that Pick n Pay Clothing will now carry Bafana Bafana gear in more than 30 stores across five provinces.
For supporters, it means something simple but significant. They can walk into a neighbourhood Pick n Pay, grab groceries and walk out with a Bafana tee without having to scout specialty sports stores or fork out premium prices.
What fans can expect in stores
Pick n Pay Clothing dropped an early look at the upcoming range and it is intentionally classic. Supporters can expect white and yellow graphic t-shirts that pay tribute to the iconic Bafana crest many South Africans grew up seeing on TV screens, posters and tournament billboards.
This accessible approach feels like a shift toward celebrating national pride in a way that is inclusive, not exclusive.
A national football moment unfolding
The timing also fits into a bigger moment for local football. On Friday, national team captain Ronwen Williams and coaches Helman Mkhalele and Grant Johnson joined President Cyril Ramaphosa as South Africa welcomed the FIFA World Cup trophy during its African tour.
Their appearance in coordinated black trousers and a white adidas golfer gave fans something else to talk about. It hinted strongly at the new adidas national team kit expected to be unveiled in March, now that Bafana’s partnership with Le Coq Sportif wrapped up in December.
A fresh signal of intent from SAFA
This collaboration between SAFA and Pick n Pay Clothing may seem small, but it sends a clear message. South African football is preparing for a global stage and supporters are being invited along in a way that feels accessible and proudly local.
Affordable merch means more kids wearing the crest. More fans in stadiums. More visibility for the national team. And a renewed sense of national football culture as the World Cup countdown continues.
If this is the first step, many fans will be hoping it is not the last.
