Being Gordon Ramsay: The untold story of the chef behind the apron

by Zaghrah Anthony

Being Gordon Ramsay: Inside the life of the world’s most famous chef

Gordon Ramsay is known for his explosive temper and sharp tongue on television, but Netflix’s new documentary series, Being Gordon Ramsay, promises a very different view of the culinary superstar.

The six-part series, premiering February 18, 2026, follows Ramsay over nine intense months as he prepares to open five new restaurants in London’s 22 Bishopsgate building—a venture valued at a staggering £20 million.

From football dreams to Michelin fame

Before his rise to culinary superstardom, Ramsay had another dream: professional football. An injury, however, changed his path, sending him into kitchens instead of stadiums. Under the guidance of legends like Marco Pierre White, Ramsay honed his skills and eventually earned multiple Michelin stars.

Television came next. Shows like Boiling Point, MasterChef, and Hell’s Kitchen turned him into a global phenomenon, celebrated for his uncompromising standards and fiery personality.

Vulnerability behind the fire

What sets Being Gordon Ramsay apart is its unflinching look at the man behind the public persona. In the trailer, Ramsay admits that the high-stakes restaurant project terrifies him. He reflects on his humble beginnings, describing himself as a “little boy desperate to escape and eager to please,” revealing the vulnerability rarely seen on his shows.

Fans will also get a glimpse of his life at home. His wife, Tana, jokingly admits that thirty years of marriage hasn’t softened him, while family milestones, such as his daughter Holly’s wedding to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, show the softer side of the chef. Ramsay even confesses to being a “hot mess” during his father-of-the-bride speech—a reminder that beneath the apron and intense kitchen persona lies a devoted dad.

High stakes, big hearts

Being Gordon Ramsay blends adrenaline-fueled professional challenges with tender family moments, capturing the dual pressures of running world-class restaurants while keeping a family close-knit. Viewers will see a chef who thrives under pressure, fears failure, but remains profoundly human, a man for whom work and family are inseparable.

Whether you know him as the screaming mentor of Hell’s Kitchen or the perfectionist restaurateur, this series promises to reveal a side of Gordon Ramsay that is equal parts raw, inspiring, and surprisingly relatable.
