Chymamusique Back on Stage: A Story of Resilience
South African house music fans have reason to celebrate: Chymamusique, born Collen Ntala Mmotla, is returning to the stage after surviving a serious car accident on August 30. The crash, which tragically claimed the life of fellow artist Poizen (Caven Masetla-Moshoane), placed Chymamusique in the ICU for several weeks.
Despite the severity of the accident, Chymamusique’s recovery has been steady and inspiring. In early September, he shared that he had undergone four successful surgeries, with one more to go, and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers he received. Since then, he has been focusing on physiotherapy and regaining strength at home.

First Gig Post-Recovery
Earlier this week, when a fan suggested a show in Soshanguve, Chymamusique confirmed that he would be returning to the stage in Johannesburg this Friday. “I’ve accepted my first gig to try to get back. I’m healing,” he told fans.
Alongside the announcement, he shared a cautionary message about road safety, urging followers to pray before traveling and to avoid unnecessary trips—a sobering reminder of the dangers on South Africa’s roads, especially as year-end festivities approach.
Music Never Stopped
Even amid recovery, Chymamusique has remained active in the studio. In August, he released Musique Collaborated Vol.1, marking his return after a four-year hiatus since his triple award-winning album Musique in 2021. Volume two of the project is set to drop later this month.
Musique Collaborated highlights Chymamusique’s signature style: a blend of deep and soulful house sounds, featuring collaborations with producers and musicians from around the world. Fans can also explore his earlier works, including House Dimensions and After The Storm, which helped cement his status as one of South Africa’s premier house music producers.
From Burgersfort to the World
Chymamusique’s journey began in Burgersfort, where he trained as a gospel and jazz pianist in the early 2000s. By 2005, he discovered house music, producing his first tracks in 2006 and releasing his debut online single in 2010. Over the years, he founded Chymamusique Records, nurturing both his music and the careers of other artists.
Known for his soulful beats and relentless work ethic, Chymamusique’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and dedication. Fans across South Africa and beyond have flooded social media with messages of support and excitement for his return, celebrating both his survival and his ongoing contribution to the music scene.
In Johannesburg’s vibrant house music community, Chymamusique’s return is more than a performance—it’s a symbol of perseverance. From intimate local gigs to international collaborations, his music continues to inspire new generations of DJs, producers, and house enthusiasts, proving that even after life’s toughest challenges, passion and talent prevail.
