Shocked is an understatement when it comes to the reaction the public has had regarding the texts Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo exposed between alleged criminal masterminds Brown Mogotsi and Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala during his testimony at the Madlanga Commission.
Similar to top cop General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, General Dumisani Khumalo has gained the public’s favour as he takes the stand to give his statement as a witness at the high-profile Madlanga Commission. Again, like his fellow law enforcement official Mkhwanazi, the general has remained confident and collected while conveying his testimony, leaving a lasting impression on those who have been keeping up.
After dropping a few bombs, including the fact that despite popular belief, General Mkhwanazi was forced out of his role as Acting National Police Commissioner, General Khumalo then went on to shock the country further by revealing some damning text messages between Cat Matlala and Brown Mogotsi.
Among many worrying factors, these texts painted a vivid picture of a close relationship between Mogotsi, Matlala as well as Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. They reveal how Mogotsi was privy to some information reserved strictly for members of the police force, and shared it with Matlala.
For South Africans, these texts have given them further context with regards to what has been happening behind closed doors, but ironically right under their noses. While implicating notable figures such as former Police Minister Bheki Cele for inreferring with the arrest of Sandiso Magaqa’s killers, these texts have confirmed that the rot in South Africa runs deeper than anyone pictured.
As expected, this has further dwindled the little trust that citizens had in the country’s leadership, and has highlighted the need to look into organisations such as banks too, as pulling off crime of this level would need the buy-in from various sectors of the country.
@FNBSA should be investigated. @TD_Canada was investigated & fined for allowing such activity to go on at the banks for long. Money Laundry that is. South Africans must demand for these big banks to be fined. They also failed to do their jobs.
