Pet hair in the kitchen? Here’s how to deal with it

We love our furry friends, except when their hairs drift and becomes an extra ingredient in our dinner. With the weather warming up now, our furry friends’ coats are starting to shed, making it more difficult to keep rogue hairs out of the kitchen. But fear not, there are ways to deal with it.

Small daily habits = major weekly impacts

Get ahead of those hairballs before they get ahead of you:

  • Wipe counters before cooking
  • Sweep or vacuum high-traffic areas
  • Use microfibre cloths (dry) to collect most of the shedding
  • Go over areas again with a damp paper towel to catch any strays
  • Brush your pets as much as possible
  • Wear a clean apron before cooking

The best tools for cleaning pet hair

When shedding season hits, your standard broom and mop scenario won’t be enough. Consider using a combination of these tools to get your kitchen spotless:

  • HEPA-filter vacuums: Or ‘high efficiency particulate air’ filter, capture 99.97% of dust, dander, and hair particles
  • Sticky rollers or reusable lint brushes: Quick and easy for countertops and chairs
  • Rubber brooms & gloves: Slightly damp rubber brooms and gloves are very useful to pick up and collect stubborn fur
  • Air purifiers: Keep those floating hairs and dander at bay with some good old humidity

A fur-free kitchen isn’t just about appearances; it’s about hygiene and peace of mind. With a few small daily habits, some time set aside for cleaning, and using the right tools, managing pet hair can become a breeze. Keep up your routine, and you won’t find an unwanted ingredient in your next Friday night stir fry.
