Bella Hadid Shares Raw Hospital Photos as She Confronts Lyme Disease Once Again

by Zaghrah Anthony

Supermodel Bella Hadid has once again peeled back the curtain on her private life, sharing raw hospital photos with her millions of fans as she continues a long and painful battle with Lyme disease.

The 28-year-old posted images of herself hooked up to IV drips and breathing equipment, apologising for her absence from social media and reminding the world that her glamorous career often masks a difficult reality.

A Decade of Invisible Struggle

Bella’s health update comes nearly two years after she told fans she was “finally healthy” following more than 100 days of treatment for Lyme and related chronic conditions. But her most recent post reveals just how persistent and unpredictable, the illness can be.

Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, who also lives with Lyme, shared an emotional tribute after Bella’s post. Calling her daughter a “Lyme warrior,” she wrote about the heartbreak of watching Bella suffer with what she described as the “invisible disability of chronic neurological Lyme disease.”

“You didn’t really live,” Yolanda wrote, “you learned how to exist inside the jail of your own paralyzed brain.”

Public Reaction and Support

Fans and fellow celebrities flooded Bella’s Instagram with messages of love and encouragement. Her sister, Gigi Hadid, left supportive comments, while Yolanda promised she would stand by Bella “every step of the way.”

On X (formerly Twitter), many users praised Bella’s openness, saying it helps shine a light on a disease often misunderstood or dismissed. Others pointed out that the Hadid family has long used their platform to raise awareness, with Yolanda and Bella speaking candidly about how the illness has reshaped their lives.

What Exactly is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. If untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart, and nervous system.

Common symptoms include:

  • Severe joint pain

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Brain fog, anxiety, and confusion

  • Sensitivity to light and sound

  • Headaches and insomnia

In some cases, the disease develops into neurological Lyme, which can bring numbness, facial paralysis, and debilitating pain.

Bella was diagnosed at just 16, the same year her mother received the same diagnosis. Her younger brother, Anwar Hadid, also has Lyme, making it a painful family reality.

Beyond the Glamour

What makes Bella’s post so powerful is the contrast: a global supermodel, gracing high-fashion runways, yet quietly battling a disease that leaves her drained and bedridden. In sharing these vulnerable moments, she not only gives fans a more honest picture of her life but also helps break the stigma around chronic illness.

As Yolanda called her: Bella is not just surviving, she is fighting. And for millions of people living with Lyme disease in the U.S., Europe, and even in South Africa where tick-borne illnesses are also present. her story resonates deeply.
