Latest PSL Results: Late Drama, Narrow Wins And A Surprise Slip-Up For Sundowns

by nikita.m

The Betway Premiership produced another night of drama as Amazulu extended their unbeaten run, Polokwane City grabbed a last-gasp winner, Richards Bay were left frustrated by a missed penalty, and giants Mamelodi Sundowns dropped unexpected points in Bloemfontein.

Ekstein The Hero As Usuthu Stay Unbeaten

Amazulu continued their good form with a 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in Durban, thanks to Hendrick Ekstein’s first-half brace. The midfielder struck twice before the break, first converting a debut assist from Thabiso Kutumela and then punishing Stellenbosch’s defensive lapse with a clinical finish.

Stellies fought back through substitute Langelihle Phili early in the second half, but Usuthu dug in to extend their unbeaten run to four matches. For Durban fans, the victory is more than just three points – it signals a team rediscovering resilience under pressure, something that’s often been missing in recent seasons.

Polokwane Break Arrows Hearts In Stoppage Time

Polokwane City’s 2-1 win over Golden Arrows had everything – early dominance by the visitors, a red card that swung the match, and a stoppage-time winner.

Arrows took the lead through Luthando Ndlovu, who showed superb composure in the box. But the game turned when goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo was dismissed for handling the ball outside the area. That moment gave Rise and Shine a lifeline, and they seized it. Bonginkosi Dlamini equalised before veteran Puleng Marema popped up in the 96th minute to send the Old Peter Mokaba crowd into frenzy.

For Polokwane, the win is only their second of the season, but the late drama could inject belief into their campaign. On social media, fans praised Marema’s “never say die” attitude, calling him “the man for the big moments.”

Richards Bay Rue Missed Penalty

Richards Bay will feel they let two points slip in their 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy at King Zwelithini Stadium. Wandile Ngema opened the scoring, only for Galaxy’s Mlungisi Mbunjana to respond before half-time.

The turning point came in the 88th minute when Richards Bay were awarded a penalty. With the chance to steal victory, Tshepo Mabua stepped up but saw his effort saved brilliantly by goalkeeper Ira Tape. Fans online called it “two points dropped,” while Galaxy supporters praised Tape for “saving the Rockets when it mattered most.”

Gallants Hold Sundowns In Bloemfontein

The biggest shock of the night came in Bloemfontein, where Mamelodi Sundowns were held 1-1 by Marumo Gallants. The defending champions looked on course for another win when Iqraam Rayners continued his hot streak with a smart header from Marcelo Allende’s cross.

But Gallants levelled just minutes later after Ronwen Williams parried an effort into danger, with Keanu Cupido turning the ball into his own net. Sundowns had chances, including a glaring miss from Peter Shalulile, but could not find a winner.

There was some good news for Masandawana fans: Bafana Bafana defender Khuliso Mudau made his long-awaited return from injury, while Teboho Mokoena slotted back into the starting XI. Even so, the draw leaves Sundowns second on the log, one point behind surprise leaders Sekhukhune United.

What It Means For The PSL

Wednesday night’s action highlighted why the PSL remains unpredictable and exciting for fans. Usuthu are quietly building momentum, Polokwane reminded everyone that late drama is part of their DNA, Richards Bay showed the fine margins that define football, and Sundowns learned that even champions can be rattled.

With Sekhukhune setting the early pace, the league is shaping up for a fascinating title race that looks less like a Sundowns procession and more like a genuine contest.
