Cyan Boujee Opens Up About Losing Brand Deals and Love After Russia Programme Backlash

by Zaghrah Anthony

DJ and influencer Cyan Boujee recently revealed how a single promotion turned her life upside down,  costing her brand deals, social media platforms, and even her romantic relationship.

Earlier this year, Cyan was among several influencers recruited to promote the Russia Alabuga Start Programme, a campaign described as a “unique opportunity” for women aged 18 to 22 worldwide. But the programme quickly sparked suspicion online, with many critics fearing it was linked to human trafficking.

The Fallout: Brands, Social Media, and Love

Speaking candidly on L-Tido’s podcast, Cyan detailed the heavy toll the controversy had on her personal and professional life.

“So, I lost a lot. I lost some bit of dignity, and I have a lot of anxiety. I lost my TikTok account, and I lost quite a number of brands,” she said.

The backlash didn’t stop at her career. Cyan shared that the scrutiny strained her romantic relationship, eventually contributing to a breakup.

“He just got distant because of the situation. Maybe I became the face of human trafficking, and that’s why he decided to leave me. I don’t know. I was madly in love. My man is a rich man, an independent man, and he is that man,” she reflected.

Lessons Learned Amid the Criticism

Despite the personal and professional losses, Cyan describes the experience as a “learning curve.”

“This is absolutely a learning curve for me. And if I had to do something like this again, I think then you would know that oh, nah, this girl nah, you know,” she said with a mix of humor and regret.

She also acknowledged that she’s not the only influencer affected. Others, like singer Seemah, saw their TikTok accounts banned, losing millions of followers and sources of income.

“I’m sorry to everybody, but shame on the influencers who really depended on this. It’s just so hard for everybody right now. But at the end of the tunnel, there is always sunshine,” Cyan added.

The Broader Context

The incident has sparked wider conversations around influencer responsibility and vetting brand partnerships. Social media users questioned how young influencers are often lured into campaigns without fully understanding the risks, especially when international schemes are involved.

For Cyan, the episode has been humbling. She encourages others to research thoroughly, question opportunities, and learn from missteps, emphasizing that personal integrity and due diligence are key in the digital age.

While Cyan Boujee is still recovering from the fallout, she remains optimistic about her career and life. Fans on social media have rallied in support, expressing empathy for the personal hardships she endured. Many see her candid reflections as a reminder of the pressures and pitfalls influencers face in an industry driven by trends, clicks, and global campaigns.

Cyan’s message is clear: even in the midst of controversy, there’s room to grow, learn, and move forward, a lesson that resonates far beyond the influencer world.
