Arsenal’s £52 million signing of Noni Madueke has faced criticism, but it tackles a key issue, writes Dylan Johnson.

Writing for Soccermag, Johnson explains that the 23-year-old winger joins Arsenal with a clear role: to support Bukayo Saka, who has battled a serious hamstring injury after heavy use. Madueke’s ability to play on either flank offers Mikel Arteta a much-needed rotation option the team lacked last season.

Although not expected to start regularly, his impact from the bench could prove crucial. With 11 goals and five assists in 46 appearances last season, Madueke has improved his ball carrying and shot creation. His fee compares well to Premier League peers like Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

This signing also allows more tactical flexibility, enabling young Ethan Nwaneri to move centrally behind a struggling Martin Ødegaard. Madueke is a smart, if not transformative, addition.
