
Omar Khan has signed a three-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers, keeping him as general manager through the 2028 season. Steelers president Art Rooney II confirmed the deal, praising Khan’s approach to roster construction.
“Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency,” Rooney said. “We look forward to continuing that trend.”
Khan, 48, took over from Kevin Colbert in 2022 and is now in his 25th season with the franchise. Nicknamed the “Khan Artist,” he has built a reputation for aggressive and creative roster moves, a contrast to Pittsburgh’s traditionally conservative front-office approach.
Only seven current starters were on the roster when Khan stepped into the GM role. His tenure has featured bold trades, including recent offseason deals that sent George Pickens to Dallas, brought in DK Metcalf from Seattle, and swapped Minkah Fitzpatrick for Miami’s Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith.
While Khan’s reshaping of the team has delivered a 29-22 regular-season record, the Steelers remain winless in the playoffs under his leadership (0-2), extending an eight-year postseason drought.
Despite that, Khan has the backing of ownership.
