The iconic Table Bay Hotel, situated in the stunning V&A Waterfront, is set to undergo a dramatic transformation with a refurbishment valued at over R1 billion.
With new ownership through The V&A Waterfront and managed by Sun International, the hotel closed its doors earlier this year to embark on an ambitious renovation aimed at modernising its facilities while retaining the charm of its storied past.
The refurbishment promises to enhance the guest experience with an array of luxurious upgrades. Visitors can look forward to a state-of-the-art spa, along with a complete revamp of dining and reception areas that will better reflect the hotel’s 5-star status.
A highlight of the renovation will be the elevated pool bar complete with a terrace offering panoramic views of the waterfront and the majestic Table Mountain.
In a bid to cater to its discerning clients, the hotel will introduce an Executive Club Floor and Lounge, designed exclusively for InterContinental guests. Building on its capacity, the Table Bay Hotel will also add 45 new guest suites, increasing the total number of rooms to 306, ensuring that luxury is accessible to even more visitors, as reported by property broker Ash Müller.
The Table Bay originally opened its doors on 30 May 1997, with the late Nelson Mandela presiding over the ceremony, marking an event of great significance in South Africa’s history.
Former Sun International CEO Sol Kerzner, a pioneer in the hospitality industry, was instrumental in the hotel’s original design, ensuring that it faced Table Mountain directly, a design choice that continues to captivate guests today.
The ongoing renovations and enhancements to the hotel’s facilities have come as a welcome update and a recognition that this jewel of the waterfront was indeed due for a makeover.
As part of the renovation, the hotel will also adopt a new identity, rebranding as an InterContinental property, marking the first of its kind in Cape Town as part of IHG’s luxury portfolio. With the reopening scheduled for December this year, anticipation is building for what promises to be a stunning revitalisation of the Table Bay Hotel.
